On Sunday the Texas athletic department announced that sophomore running back Johnthan Gray (right achilles) and defensive tackle senior Chris Whaley (left knee) will undergo surgery and will be out for the remainder of the 2013 season.

After starting the game against West Virginia on Saturday, Gray was injured in the second quarter. Gray currently leads the team in rushing with 780 yards and four touchdowns this season. He also ranks third in the Big 12 for rushing yards.

When he suffered a season ending knee injury in the first quarter Whaley's break out season came to an end. So far this year he 25 tackles, five tackles for a loss, and two turnover returns for touchdowns. Against Oklahoma he intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown and against Kansas he returned a fumble recovery for a touchdown.
