KANSAS CITY, Mo. — University of Texas junior forward Jonathan Holmes was named to the five-person National Association of Basketball Coaches Division I All-District 8 Second Team, the NABC announced today. The teams were selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC. District 8 encompasses all 10 member institutions of the Big 12 Conference.
Holmes was joined on the six-person NABC All-District 8 Second Team by Marcus Foster (Kansas State), Marcus Smart (Oklahoma State), Juwan Staten (West Virginia), Ryan Spangler (Oklahoma) and Perry Ellis (Kansas). The five-person First Team includes Melvin Ejim (Iowa State), Andrew Wiggins (Kansas), Joel Embiid (Kansas), DeAndre Kane (Iowa State) and Buddy Hield (Oklahoma).
An All-Big 12 Second Team and USBWA All-District VII Team selection, Holmes leads the team in scoring (13.0 ppg) and ranks second on the squad in rebounding (7.3 rpg) and blocked shots (37). He has reached double figures in scoring in 22 of his first 28 games played and has converted 123-of-240 (.513) field goals on the year.
Texas (22-9, 11-7 Big 12) opens play at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship with a quarterfinal contest against West Virginia on Thursday, March 13. Tip is set for approximately 8:30 p.m.Central at Sprint Center in Kansas City, and the game will be televised regionally by the Big 12 Network.
