Football

15 days until the 2013-2014 Texas Football Season kicks off against New Mexico State!

Several former Texas Longhorn players took part in NFL preseason games this week. The Green Bay Packer’s Vince Young saw action in a loss against the Arizona Cardinals. Young went 1 for 3 passing for seven yards. Young also added 12 yards on the ground. Young is expected to see his role increase in Saturday night’s game against the St. Louis Rams. Young will be facing his former coach at the Tennessee Titans, Jeff Fischer.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colt McCoy went 3-of-7 passing for 41 yards and threw an interception in the second quarter. McCoy suffered a shoulder injury against the Denver Broncos, but returned to practice as a full participant later in the week. The injury was described as a stinger.

Marquise Goodwin returned a kickoff 107 yards in a blowout win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles gained 13 yards rushing and scored a touchdown on the ground in a loss to the New Orleans Saints. Charles added 27 receiving yards on three catches.

Track and Field

Former Texas Longhorn Dylan Armstrong placed third at the IAAF World Championships in the shot put.
Armstrong tossed 70 feet, 1/4 inch on his fifth attempt to secure the second medal of his career.

Texas newcomer Ashley Spencer helped Team USA to a finals qualification in the first round of the women's 4x400-meter relay.

Softball

Former Texas Longhorn Taylor Hoagland helped Team USA earn the top seed heading into playoff action at the Pan American Games Qualifier with a 12-0 victory over the US Virgin Islands on Thursday. Hoagland went two-for-two with a run scored, and also drove in two runs.

Team USA is went 6-0 in pool play to earn themselves the No.1 seed in the playoffs.
