Football

The University of Texas Longhorn football team defeated the West Virginia Mountaineers 47-40 in overtime Saturday in Morgantown. The Longhorns now hold a 6-0 record in the Big 12 and 7-2 record overall.

Case McCoy went 27-for-49 passing for 283 yards and threw three touchdowns. McCoy threw a two-yard, game-winning touchdown in overtime to Alex De La Torre. Linebacker Steve Edmond intercepted a pass in the end zone on fourth down to prevent West Virginia from scoring and to seal the win.

Running back Malcolm Brown scored one touchdown and ran for 89 yards on the ground to help Texas in the victory. Wide receiver Jaxon Shipley scored his first touchdown of the season and caught seven passes for 82 yards.

Cedric Reed and Desmond Jackson both recorded two sacks in the game, while Jackson Jeffcoat finished with one sack.

The Longhorns lost two keys players to season-ending injuries on Saturday. Running back Johnathan Gray will miss due to an Achilles injury, while defensive tackle Chris Whaley will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

The Longhorns will return to action on Nov. 16 against Oklahoma State in DKR Texas-Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT.

Men's Basketball

The Texas Longhorns Men's Basketball team defeated Mercer 76-73 in their season opener. Mercer who won the Atlantic Sun Conference regular-season championship last year.

2023 Texas Longhorns Football Season Tickets

Freshman guard Isaiah Taylor led the Longhorns in scoring in his debut with 17 points. Guard Javan Felix and forward Jonathan Holmes each added 11 points in the win. Cameron Ridley finished with eight points and 11 rebounds, and added five blocks on defense.

The Longhorns will play South Alabama in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on the Longhorn Network.

Women's Basketball

The Texas Women's Basketball team defeated UTSA 63-42 in their season opener Sunday. Senior guard Chassidy Fussell led the Longhorns with 18 points in the win. Imani McGee-Stafford recorded a double-double in the game with 16 points and 12 rebounds. McGee-Stafford also added 5 blocks.

The Longhorns will play Texas State Wednesday at 7 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on the Longhorn Network.

Volleyball

The No. 1 Texas Volleyball team defeated the Kansas Jayhawk 3-1 (25-16, 15-25, 25-22, 25-21) in Gregory Gym Saturday to push their unbeaten streak to 14 games. The Longhorns maintained their perfect record in the Big 12 with the win at 11-0.

All-American Haley Eckerman finished with a season-high 25 kills and added 13 digs to record a double-double. All-American Bailey Webster added 16 kills, while Hannah Allison finished with 40 assists.

Texas returns to action Nov. 16 when it travels to Lubbock to play Texas Tech.
