Horns Illustrated Week in Review (September 23rd-30th)

Football
The University of Texas Longhorn Football team is coming off a bye week after defeating Kansas State 31-21. The Longhorns will travel to Ames to take on Iowa State on Thursday, Oct. 3rd.
The Longhorns are currently sitting with a 1-0 record in Big 12 play and a 2-2 record overall this season.
Quarterback David Ash is still listed as questionable to play against Iowa State after suffering another head injury in the game against Kansas State. Ash did not play the second half and was replaced by Case McCoy. True freshman quarterback Tyrone Swoopes has been getting reps as the backup this week in practice.
Running back/Wide Receiver Daje Johnson has returned to practice and is expected to play against the Cyclones on Thursday.
Kickoff for the Iowa St. vs. Texas game is set for 6:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN.
Texas legend, quarterback, and pitcher James Street passed away on Monday morning at the age of 65. The UT football players will wear JS stickers on their helmets in the game Thursday.
Baseball
The Texas Longhorn Baseball team shut out Texas State on Sunday, winning 9-0 in the exhibition game. Five Texas pitchers combined for a 12-inning shutout. On Saturday the Longhorns fell to Lamar 10-8. The 12-inning exhibition game was cut short in the bottom of the 11th due to heavy rain.
Softball
The Texas Longhorns Softball team defeated Incarnate World and Odessa College in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon to open the fall season. The Lady Longhorns defeated Incarnate World 5-1, then defeated Odessa College 18-0.
The team will return to action on Friday, Oct. 4 to host Temple College. The game will be televised on the Longhorn Network at 7 p.m.
Soccer
The Texas Longhorns Women's Soccer team earned a weekend sweep over Iowa State (3-1) and TCU (2-0). In the Sunday match against Iowa State, Chantale Campbell opened the scoring for the Longhorns and Marchelle Davis and Sharis Lachappelle also added their names to the score sheet. In the 2-0 win over TCU on Friday, Whitney Jaynes and Sydney Shutter were the goalscorers for Texas.
The Lady Longhorns now sit at 2-0 in Big 12 play and will travel to West Virginia on Friday to take on the Mountaineers.
Volleyball
The Texas Longhorn Volleyball team defeated Oklahoma 3-0 on Saturday and improved to 2-0 in Big 12 play.
Bailey Webster led the Lady Longhorns with 15 kills. Hannah Allison led the Longhorns in assists with 43 and Sarah Palmer led with 18 digs.
The Longhorns return to action against Baylor in Waco on Wednesday, Oct. 2. The match will be televised on ESPNU at 8 p.m.
