How Gunnar Helm kept that chip on his shoulder throughout the season

First, let’s go back to right after the first spring practice way back in April 2024. Several players talked with the media after practice.

Gunnar Helm was one of them.

The Players Shop

Helm sat on a tall chair in front of a bar sized table covered with a black cloth. On the table were several mic’s and cell phones recording.

Still in his workout clothes, sweat beading on his forehead and a soaked t-shirt, Helm had a look as if he just had taken down a Caribou in Alaska with his bare hands and the fight was not ease.

His face intense, shoulders back and squared. Helm’s eyes locked as if he was still in the fight.

He was on edge to put it lightly. This was the first day of spring practice.

During the season before and after the games, Helm would talk to the media about the upcoming game or details of how the game went in post game.

Serious, intense, and focused, Helm sat there and looked at you with a chip on his shoulder.

Helm was a pleasure to talk with and listen to. Always a gentlemen, polite, professional, and open, but direct and matter of fact.

One Monday in the middle of the season, we got up the courage to ask Helm how he kept that chip on his shoulder.

Watch Helm look at the camera…you’ll get the picture. From the first day of spring practice, it was obvious Helm was going to the NFL. Throughout the season, Helm left no doubt that he was 110% focused on having his first job out of college be playing in the NFL.

Time will tell as the 2025 NFL Draft nears. Keep your eyes on Gunnar Helm. He will play in the NFL.
