IRVING, Texas – The Big 12 Conference announced Wednesday the selection of Texas junior swimmer Gretchen Jaques (pronounced JAKES) as the league’s Women’s Swimmer of the Week.

Jaques (Covina, Calif.) produced key individual efforts in UT’s victories at No. 10 Indiana and No. 17 Michigan (Oct. 25).  Jaques edged Indiana All-America sprinter Kait Flederbach in back-to-back events at Flederbach’s home pool.

Jaques claimed the 50-yard freestyle in 23.19 seconds and won the 100 freestyle in 50.18.  The All-American added a NCAA provisional-qualifying mark of 54.32 for second place in the 100 butterfly.

Jaques and the Longhorns take on Virginia, Penn State and West Virginia in a two-day meet beginningFriday (Nov. 8) in Charlottesville, Va.
