Jeffcoat named to watch list for 2013 Ted Hendricks Award

CHICAGO – Texas senior Jackson Jeffcoat has been named to the watch list for the 2013 Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year Award.

Jeffcoat was one of 22 players named to the list Monday by the Ted Hendricks Foundation.

For Jeffcoat, this is the seventh time he has appeared on a 2013 preseason national award watch list. He is among the candidates for the Walter Camp Award, Bednarik Award, Nagurski Trophy, Lott Trophy, Lombardi Award and CFPA Defensive Awards.

The native of Plano, Texas, has appeared in 27 career games with 20 starts, and has posted at least one sack in 10 of his last 13 games with 12 over that span.

For his career, Jeffcoat has 117 tackles (59 solo), including 38 tackles for loss and 14.5 sacks, 22 pressures, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and five pass breakups.

After tallying 71 tackles, including 21 tackles for loss and eight sacks, in 2011, he missed the final seven games of 2012 with a pectoral injury. Jeffcoat still finished second on the team in TFL (11) and sacks (four). He was a 2011 second-team All-Big 12 selection and was tabbed honorable mention Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2010.

Former Longhorn Brian Orakpo won the 2008 Hendricks Award, which is named after the three-time All-American who played at the University of Miami before embarking on a 15-year NFL Hall of Fame career.

On-field performance, exceptional winning attitude, leadership abilities, contributions to school and community and academic preparedness are some of the criteria used to determine the award winner. Members of the national media, head coaches, professional scouts and former winners are included in the voting committee. The winner will be announced onDec. 11.
