In the 2023 season, Brooks had 1,139 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns, plus 25 receptions for 286 yards and one touchdown. Brooks ranks sixth in FBS in rushing yards and seventh in rushing yards per game (113.9 yard/game)

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said, “We’re heartbroken for Jonathon. He was having a fantastic season and leaves a void that needs to be filled. But we know he will continue to be an invaluable leader on our team, helping us prepare as we move forward in our mission this season. I know he’ll work extremely hard in his recovery, get back to full speed as soon as he can, and we will be there by his side supporting him through all of that.”

Jonathan Brooks is a sophomore from small town Hallettsville, Texas. Brooks in his first two years at Texas redshirted and kept developing his skills while Bijan Robinson and Roschon Jones were leading Texas in the backfield.

Brooks is a two-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll majoring in Physical Culture and Sports at The University of Texas.

In high school, Brooks was also a punter and was a first-team All-District basketball player.
