Jordan Spieth in Striking Distance of British Open Lead, Shoots 2-under-par First Round

Jordan Spieth (who recently won the John Deere Classic) shot a 2-under 69 at the course at Muirfield in the first round of the British Open on Thursday.
In his first career British Open round, Spieth parred 14 of 18 holes. He birdied three holes (numbers three, five and 17). His only bogey came on the fourth hole, a par 3.
"Only one bogey on the card. Would love to have that tomorrow, too," Spieth said on ESPN's telecast.
Spieth made history Sunday, becoming the first teenager in 82 years to win a PGA Tour event (the John Deere Classic). He also secured a two-year Tour exemption and berths in this week’s British Open, next month’s PGA Championship and FedEx playoffs and next year’s Masters.
Spieth's second round will tee off at 1:49 a.m. CT on Thursday along with Matthew Fitzpatrick and Russell Henley. Here are the TV times for the British Open on ESPN:
