AUSTIN, Texas — Texas midfielder Julia Grosso is one of 23 players chosen to play for the Canadian Women’s Senior National Team for the FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will be held June 7-July in France.
During the pool play portion of the tournament, Canada will take on Cameroon (June 10, New Zealand (June 15) and the Netherlands (June 20).
Grosso, who will[s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)] be a sophomore at UT in the fall has earned 16 senior caps since making her debut with the Canadian team Nov. 12, 2017. She has played in three international friendlies this season — April 5 against England, April 8 against Nigeria and May 18 against Mexico — and took part in three games during the Algarve Cup Feb. 27-March 6 in Portugal.
During her freshman season in Austin, Grosso earned Big 12 Co-Freshman of the Year accolades and was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region Second Team after starting 11 of the 13 matches in which she played, scoring twice on seven shots on goal. She missed eight games during her freshman season to play for the Canadian National team while qualifying for the World Cup. She scored both of her goals in a span of 6:04 in the second half of UT’s 4-0 win over Kansas State.
