AUSTIN, Texas — Lead a team to three straight road victories against a conference rival, and people are bound to notice.
Freshman Texas outfielder Kaitlyn Washington did just that, helping the Texas softball team sweep a three-game series against Texas Tech in Lubbock and being named Big 12 Player of the Week.
During the three-game set in Lubbock, Washington hit .467 (7-for-15), scored a pair of runs, smacked three doubles and drove in four runs. In the Longhorns 14-inning win in the series opener, Washington collected a career-high three hits, including a pair of doubles — one of which started UT’s game-winning three-run outburst in the 14th inning.
For the season, Washington is hitting .260 with six doubles, a home run and 10 RBI.
Washington and the Longhorns will be back on the field Wednesday, April 19, when they host Texas Southern at 5 p.m. in a game that will be broadcast on the Longhorn Network.
