AUSTIN, Texas — After batting .500 and leading the Big 12 for the week in home runs (three), runs batted in (tied with seven), slugging percentage (1.400) and OPS (2.015), Texas sophomore outfielder Kaitlyn Washington has been named Big 12 Player of the Week.

Washington hit safely in each game of the Longhorns’ three-game sweep at Iowa State; in the second game of the series, an 8-0 UT win, she went 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs, one of which was a grand slam, and a career-high five RBI. The performance was the first two-home run showing by a Longhorn since former UT outfielder Lindsey Stephens clubbed a pair of long balls in May 2016 over then-No. 16 Texas A&M.

Washington and the Longhorns hit the road Tuesday to take on the Houston Cougars at 6:30 p.m. in a game that can be heard on 105.3 FM in Austin.
