Karen Aston | Semifinalist for Naismith Coach of the Year
Texas women's basketball head coach Karen Aston has been named one of 10 semifinalists for the 2018 Naismith Women's College Coach of the Year award, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Wednesday morning.
Members of the Naismith Award national voting academy will submit their ballots to narrow the list down to four finalists, which will be announced March 14. The 2018 Naismith Women's College Coach of the Year will be announced March 31.
Last season, Aston was one of four coaches nationally to be named a finalist for the accolade. She also was named the 2017 Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year.
Aston has led the Longhorns to a 22-5 overall record and a 13-3 mark in Big 12 Conference play during the 2017-18 season. Texas is ranked No. 6 in the nation and has recorded five wins this season against Associated Press Top 25 teams.
Aston's team secured a second-place finish in the Big 12 Conference for the third consecutive season and extended her team's streak of consecutive 20-win seasons to five.
Aston has compiled a 136-60 (.694) record in her sixth season on the Forty Acres, and her 130 victories are the second-highest total by any coach in Texas history. In her 11th season as a collegiate head coach, Aston is 237-123 (.658).
