Kris Boyd, Breckyn Hager earn preseason All-Big 12 honors

IRVING, Texas — Texas defensive back Kris Boyd was named second-team All-Big 12 and linebacker Breckyn Hager earned Honorable Mention honors when the conference announced its preseason all-conference teams Wednesday.
Boyd played in all 13 games last season for the Longhorns, starting 12 times, and finished the season by claiming second-team All-Big 12 honors from the Associated Press. His 57 tackles ranked fifth on the team in 2017, and he tied for second among all Longhorn defenders with a pair of interceptions. He also broke up 15 passes, the most by any UT player since 2011. In his career, has 121 tackles (89 solo), three interceptions, 22 pass breakups, three forced fumbles and a pair of fumble recoveries.
Boyd also has picked up All-Big 12 honors from both Athlon Sports and Phil Steele’s College Football Preview.
Hager started in four of the 13 games in which he played last season. He claimed Honorable Mention All-Big 12 honors after finishing the season with 23, nine tackles for loss, four sacks, four pass breakups, three quarterback hurries and a fumble recovery. In the first three years of his UT career, Hager has 105 tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks in 34 career games, nine of which he has started.
He earned preseason first-team All-Big 12 honors from Athlon Sports and second-team all-conference honors from Phil Steele’s College Football Preview.
