AMES, Iowa — Sometimes, it’s all about timing.

Senior midfielder Kayra Dollas scored her first goal of the season in the 87th minute to lift the No. 13 Texas soccer team to a 2-1 road victory Friday over Iowa State.

With the win, which was interrupted by a lightning delay of 43 minutes, Texas improves its season record to 10-1-2 overall and 2-1-1 in games against Big 12 opponents. Iowa State fell to 2-10-2 overall and 0-3-1 in Big 12 matches.

After starting the season with a 9-0-1 record in its first 10 games, UT had been winless in its previous two before getting to Ames, having tied Oklahoma State and lost to TCU.

Against the Cyclones, forward Cyera Hintzen put the Longhorns on the board first when she buried a shot from 30 yards out in the 15th minute. But Iowa State got the equalizer just 57 seconds later when Klasey Medelberg set up Kassi Ginther for her second goal of the season.

Texas outshot Iowa State, 20-7, including a 7-2 edge in shots on goal, but couldn’t resolve the score until Dollas’ late heroics, which were set up by assists by Hintzen and Alexa Adams.

The Longhorns now head east for a showdown of ranked teams when Texas takes on No. 16 West Virginia in Morgantown, W.V. at 12 p.m. Sunday.
