Leo Manzano

AUSTIN, Texas – Former Texas Track and Field standout Leo Manzano announced a partnership with Marathon Kids on Monday. Manzano is teaming up with the non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health of children by offering the tools, motivation and support to build a healthier lifestyle.

Manzano, two-time Olympian, will serve as the organization's National Celebrity Ambassador for the 2014-15 program year. Manzano will assist the organization by spreading its mission during the program year at various events. He will be the Marathon Kids spokesperson and will make personal appearances during school visits arranged by the organization.

"It's an honor for me to become a part of this mission," Manzano said. "Marathon Kids is an amazing organization that not only encourages children to adopt healthy habits by setting physical activity and healthy eating goals, they offer support and tools to help them achieve those goals. It's great to be a small part of a child's success."

Marathon Kids will host the Austin Kick Off Ceremony on October 25 at Mike A. Myers Track and Soccer Stadium.

While a member of the track and field team at Texas, Manzano began supporting Marathon Kids in 2005. Since then, he's attended several events to continue his involvement, encouraging K-5th graders to become healthy advocates through the 26.2 Mile Challenge.

"We are truly excited to have Leo officially come on board; he is a great role model for our Marathon Kids," said Executive Director, Christine Pollei. "The example he sets as a health champion, as someone like them, who started running with his teachers and classmates, makes a real impact. We are delighted he has chosen to include us and all of our kids on his road to becoming one of the top runners in the world."
