Longhorn Earns Distinction of Best Logo in College Football
Ask any Horns fan what they think the best logo in college football is and you’re bound to hear them respond “the Longhorns.” Apparently, Texas fans aren’t so misguided in this opinion.
According to athlonsports.com, the Longhorns do, indeed, have the best logo in college football.
“The best logo in college football, the Longhorn is classic, simple, unchanging but also unique and creative,” read the article. “There is nothing else to say.”
It’s hard to argue that the burnt orange-silhouetted Longhorn isn’t completely badass. The football team has adorned the iconic logo on their helmets since 1961, a year the Longhorns went 10-1 and welcomed a decade of dominance that would see them win three national titles.
The logo was conceived when Darrell K. Royal approached sporting goods merchant William “Rooster” Andrews to design a new logo. Andrews then gave Royal a crayon drawing of a Longhorn head.
Royal’s response?
“This is it!”
Who knew Royal had such an eye for graphic design?
