It’s summer. that means that the Longhorns Football team is working out, working hard and preparing for 2013.
The Longhorns have one of the most experienced teams (19 returning starters), a starting quarterback that is ready for a breakout season and a fan base that is ready to win. With all the ups and downs of the past year, let us not forget that winning cures everything. There at 12 games on the schedule between now and December, some tougher than others.
Here are the 3 most difficult challenges that the Longhorns will face in 2013.

#3 TCU
TCU’s inaugural season in the Big 12 was a bit of a roller coaster ride. Certainly one of the teams biggest highlights came on Thanksgiving night when the Horned Frogs marched into Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium and handed the Longhorns a 20-13 defeat.
TCU has returning starting experience at QB and is a team that has tasted success against Texas in the Big 12.
Texas is expected to finish somewhere in the Top 10. For this team to lose to TCU for the second year in a row, it wouldbe a huge disappointment.
There is no secret about it. The Horned Frogs will not be an easy out in the Big 12.

#2 Oklahoma State
This late season game could come at a time when both teams have a lot on the line. A Big 12 title and a spot in the BCS will be more than enough motivate. Put that together with two of the best (projected) offenses in the conference and you have yourself the makings of a tough game!
Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy has put together quite the offensive machine. His team ranked No. 3 and No. 7 in scoring offense and passing offense last year.
The Cowboys are co-favorites (along with the Longhorns) to win the Big 12. This game could be a shootout.

#1 Oklahoma (You guessed it)
Some will say that losing to Oklahoma 4 years in a row could spell the end to the Mack Brown era. We think Mack Brown will lead us back to greatness, and this game could be the barometer as to how ‘close’ we are.
Let’s say the Longhorns lose again … a perfect record (not so far fetched) against the other teams puts Texas at 11-1. That would be plenty to put Texas in position for a Big 12 Title and BCS appearance.
We will say it again, winning cures all. Hypothetically speaking, the Longhorns could very well be 1-11 with the only win coming against the Sooners and most of the people reading this article would probably be happy. Ok, maybe not, but you get our point!
There has been plenty of talk about the Texas-Oklahoma State game serving as the tipping point towards naming a conference champion. In fact, beating the Cowboys may be the biggest key for Texas’ championship hopes.
But in the grand scheme of it all, which extends well-beyond the boundaries of the 2013 season, a win over Oklahoma would satisfy every proponent of the Texas program, even more so if it comes en route to a Big 12 Title.
Oklahoma State is the game to win, but make no mistake. The Red River Rivalry — like it is every year — is the game of utmost importance.
