By Steve Lansdale
For the first time, Texas GameDay, the Longhorn Network’s pre-game show that airs before University of Texas football games, will air from two different locations before the Longhorns’ 2015 games. (Continue reading below...)
(Continued from above.) Starting two-and-a-half hours before kickoff, the show will be broadcast live from the corner of Dedman and 23rd, outside Gate 25 of Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, offering fans an ideal vantage point from which to watch as the players and coaches make their way into the stadium. Then, for the last hour before the start of the game, the show will migrate to a set on the sideline of the field itself.
The set previously was located in the southeast corner end zone.
“The new location allows us to even further illuminate the experience of Texas football and directly engage with fans on game day,” Longhorn Network coordinating producer Tom McCollum said. “We are still able to bring viewers into the stadium and provide a unique vantage point with the sideline flex-set, while also having more interaction with fans outside the gates prior to the game.”
Lowell Galindo will host the show, and will be joined by analysts Vince Young, Ricky Williams and contributing analyst David Thomas. Thomas and Young played together — at tight end and quarterback, respectively — on the 2005 BCS National Championship team. Former UT offensive lineman Kasey Studdard also will have a contributing role with the broadcast, while Jane Slater returns as a reporter for the broadcast of all home and road games. In addition to their roles with the broadcast, the members of the broadcast team also will appear in a series of Texas GameDay advertisements.
The show will begin its fifth season Saturday, Sept. 5, live from the LHN studio for the Longhorns’ first road game, and the new set, which will include a classic Airstream trailer by the desk which serves as the centerpiece of the set, will make its first appearance the following weekend, when UT welcomes the Rice Owls to Austin. The game kicks off at 7 p.m., and the Texas GameDay pre-game show begins at 4:30 p.m.
