AUSTIN, Texas – Longhorn wide receiver Cayleb Jones has elected to transfer, his parents, Robert and Maneesha Jones, confirmed on Wednesday. The Austin, Texas (Austin HS) native has been given an unconditional release from his scholarship by UT and will depart the program after playing as a true freshman last season.

“We want to thank coach Brown, coach Wyatt and all of the staff for everything they’ve done for Cayleb and our family,” Robert Jones said. “We've really enjoyed being a part of the Texas program, but we’ve talked about the situation as a family, and we think it's best for Cayleb to get a fresh start and transfer to another school. We know he will miss his teammates and playing for the Longhorns, but we believe this move is in his best interest.”

Jones played in 11 games as a backup wide receiver as in 2013. He had two receptions for 35 yards and a 10-yard run on the year.

“We’ve talked to the Jones family and realize this was a very difficult decision,” Brown said. “Cayleb is looking for a fresh start, and we understand that and are appreciative of everything he did for Texas. We will support him as he moves forward and wish him the best of luck in the future.”
