Longhorns hoping to get back on track Saturday against Baylor

The Longhorns have won four of the last five meetings overall between the two teams. Texas and Baylor have split their last 10 games, dating back to 2010, with the Bears winning, 24-10, in Waco last season.

The Texas football team, and the Longhorn nation as a whole, is trying to find a way to deal with the controversy surrounding the standing and singing of the school song, The Eyes of Texas, which has a racially insensitive history.

The song will continue to be played at games and university functions, Herman has decided to let his players choose whether to stay on the field for the song after games.

“I want to make it very clear that our coaches, not just in football but in every sport, and our administration are completely aligned,” Herman said. “In terms of the expectations of what postgame should look like, we have had very meaningful conversations with our team, encouraging them to participate but also being very, very sensitive to the plight, to the feelings and to the very individual circumstances that that all of these young men are going through.”

After much discussion within the university and among fans, The Eyes of Texas will continue to be played after Texas games (photo courtesy of texassports.com).
