Nate Boyer named recipient of Marv Levy Impact Award
Former Texas deep snapper Nate Boyer has been named the recipient for the Marv Levy Impact Award by Mike Ditka's Gridiron Greats foundation. The award is presented to a man or woman who serves or served in the armed forces, has exhibited exceptional leadership qualities, serves in the community and has the qualities of being honest, honorable and courageous. Boyer will be the first recipient of the award and will receive it Friday night in Las Vegas. The award will be presented by Levy, the former Buffalo Bills head coach and NFL Hall of Fame inductee.
Before playing for Texas and signing with the Seattle Seahawks, Boyer served in the armed forces as a Green Beret and did tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He also has been a part of other community service works such as working as a big brother for children diagnosed with autism and volunteering as a relief worker building refugee camps in the Darfur region of the Sudan/Chad border. Most recently, Boyer climbed Mount Kilimanjaro with a wounded veteran to raise money for clean water wells in Tanzania.
Boyer is on the board of directors for Merging Vets & Players (MVP), which matches up former combat vets with former professional athletes to give them a new team to tackle the transition together once the uniform comes off. He is involved with Waterboys.org, which unites NFL players and fans in support of providing life-sustaining well water to East African communities in need. He is also the vice president of Mission 6 Zero.
