No. 1 Texas Baseball does not allow Rice to score on Opening Day [includes photo gallery]
AUSTIN, Texas - Opening Day at UFCU Disch-Falk field before 7,355 fans the No. 1 Texas Longhorns over powered Rice 7-0. Starting pitcher Pete Hansen pitched six innings, struck out eight, allowed three hits and gets the win.
Catcher Silas Ardoin put one over the fence for a homer, went 3-4 with a double, and three RBI. Ardoin demonstrated what happens when you try to steal a base against Texas by throwing out the first attempted base stealer of the season.
Outfielder Austin Todd from Round Rock, Texas started in his sixth consecutive Opening Day for the Texas Longhorns and went 1-3 with a run scored.
Freshman right-hander Travis Sthele from San Antonio, Texas makes his debut by pitching two scoreless innings and one strike out.
Texas plays Rice at UFCU Disch-Falk field Feb. 19th at 2:30 p.m. with Tristan Stevens getting the start.
