NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS – No. 25 Texas Soccer closed out its non-conference schedule with a 2-0 win over Stephen F. Austin on Friday night at the SFA Soccer Complex.

The Longhorns (12-4-2, 5-1-1 Big 12 Conference)picked up a goal in the first 10 minutes and added another midway through the second half while playing stout defense against the Ladyjacks to help sophomore keeper Abby Smith to her eighth shutout of the season.

Senior Gabby Zarnegar got Texas on the board early in the sixth minute with her second goal in 2013.  Junior Sharis Lachappelle lined up for the match's first corner kick on the right side and sent the ball to the near post, finding the head of Zarnegar, who flicked it past SFA keeper Lacey Lee.

Freshman Julia Dyche tacked on another goal for Texas, the first of her career, in the 68th minute.  The play started with sophomore Kelsey Shimmickdribbling down the right side toward the corner.  Shimmick crossed it back toward the top of the box and found the feet of Dyche, who sent it on the ground to the back of the net past Ladyjacks keeper Morgan Glick.

Texas tallied nine of their 12 shots in the first half, led by Lachappelle, who in addition to her assist took four shots in the opening period and put two of them on frame.  Lachappelle nearly got a goal in the 15th minute on her first shot from just outside the box, but it hit the crossbar.

UT also got solid play from their back line despite allowing 16 shots by Stephen F. Austin on the night.  The Ladyjacks came out fast in the second half, testing the Texas defense with five shots in the first five minutes of play.  But the Longhorns blocked a pair of them and Smith made two saves to keep SFA scoreless.

Smith made a career-high seven saves en route to her second consecutive shutout and the Longhorns extended their unbeaten streak to five matches.  Texas has now won eight of its last 10.
