No. 3 Men’s Golf finishes second at OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. -- The No. 3 Texas Men’s Golf team finished second in the second event of the season with a three-round total of 27-over-par 867 (292-287-288) at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational. Senior Toni Hakula led the Longhorns in Sunday’s final round at Olympia Fields Country Club with a 1-under 69 and tied for ninth place overall at 6-over 216 (68-79-69).

Freshman Beau Hossler (74-71-72=217) finished one stroke behind Hakula for 11th place, while freshman Gavin Hall (76-71-73=220) tied for 23rd. Seniors Brax McCarthy (74-73-76=223) and Johnathan Schnitzer (82-72-74=228) finished in ties for 39th and 57th places, respectively.

Alabama (281-277-291=849) took home team honors in the talent-laden field. Oklahoma State (291-291-287=869), Arkansas (294-287-290=871) and Stanford (295-287-290=872) rounded out the top-five teams.

The Longhorns will return to action next month at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate (Oct. 7-8).
