League-leading Louisiana Tech overpowered the Mavericks 64-51 before a raucous crowd in Ruston, La. The loss snapped the Mavericks’ two-game conference winning streak, dropping UTA to 10-9 overall and 5-5 in conference play.

 team’s first loss on the road (4-1) in the WAC this season. The Bulldogs (19-3) remained perfect in league play at 10-0 by sweeping the season series. Louisiana Tech beat the Mavericks 55-52 in Arlington Jan. 5. Junior forward Brandon Edwards paced the team with 17 points and nine rebounds. Junior forward Greg Gainey added 10 points.

The Mavericks shot 36 percent and committed 20 turnovers. “[Louisiana Tech] did a great job defensively,” head coach Scott Cross said. “They got their hands on passes and deflections that ended up being turnovers.” The Bulldogs won despite shooting 36.7 percent — marking the 13th time UTA has held its opponent to less than 40 percent.
