Ioannis Papapetrou off to solid start at Under-20 European Championships

TALLIN, Estonia — University of Texas sophomore forward Ioannis Papapetrou is off to a solid start while playing for Greece at the Sportland Under-20 European Championships. Through the first two games of the tourney, Papapetrou has averaged 15.0 points while converting 12-of-25 (.480) field goals and posted a team-best 6.0 rebounds per contest while leading Greece to a 2-0 record in Group A pool play.

During Wednesday’s 79-73 victory against Serbia, Papapetrou had a game-high 18 points on 7-of-13 FG (3-of-6 threes) to go along with five rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block in 33 minutes. Papapetrou added 12 points on 5-of-12 FG, seven rebounds and one assist in 33 minutes during Thursday’s 65-56 win against Germany.

Papapetrou and Greece continue Group A pool play with contests against Georgia on Friday, July 12and Lithuania on Saturday, July 13. Classification and medal round play will begin on Monday, July 15 and the tournament runs through Sunday, July 21.
