This ain’t no joke – the Texas Longhorns travel up to Waco, Texas to play the Baylor Bears for what is the beginning of the end of Big 12 Conference play for Texas and there is no guarantee Texas wins.
Just because Baylor is only an hour and thirty minutes up the road (practically next door neighbors considering how big Texas is), this will not be a friendly game of tackle football after a big family dinner.
Many families from South Austin to North Waco are Baylor and Texas alumni. If the Bears win, Bevo might have to wear a Baylor jersey.
This is a serious football country, Texas is.
This rivalry goes back to 1901 when the first game was played in Waco. Since then the two teams have met 112 times with the Longhorns winning 71% of the games (80-28–4).
Here’s the situation. Just like Texas didn’t care about Alabama’s past record or how great of a team they are, Baylor is going to bring their ‘A’ game against Texas.
In coach Sarkisian’s weekly press conference, he is all business, has high praises and respect for Baylor and head coach Dave Aranada who was named the AP Big 12 Coach of the Year in 2021, the year Baylor were conference champions.
