It’s time to get excited, Horns’ fans! Game number two is upon us and our Longhorns are taking their high octane offense (I know, I know … they have only played one game. Still, I will refer to their offense as ‘high octane’ until they prove otherwise) to Provo where they will face BYU. [s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)]
Here is a quick rundown from Wendell Barnhouse of Big12Sports.com.
Where: LaVell Edwards Stadium
Time: 6pm
Records: Texas 1-0, BYU 0-1.
Scouting Texas: After a slow start, the Longhorns set a school record for total offense in the season opener. Junior quarterback David Ash had a career-high 434 yards in total offense and matched his career high with four touchdown passes. UT’s defense forced nine New Mexico State punts and limited the Aggies to just five third-down conversions in 18 attempts.
Scouting BYU: The Cougars offense is led by sophomore quarterback Taysom Hill and receiver Ross Apo, a Texas native who originally committed to UT before deciding on BYU. The offense pushes the pace – the Cougars ran 93 plays in an opener played in a downpour. BYU’s defense is rugged and led by senior linebacker Kyle Van Noy.
This and that: Texas has won 11 straight non-conference road games since a 27-24 loss at Stanford on Sept. 16, 2000. … BYU has dropped six straight games against Top 25 opponents. One loss was by three points and three were by a single point. … The Cougars lost their opener at Virginia in a game that was delayed by lightning over two hours.
