MCCOY HAS his share of highlight-reel games at Texas, but his biggest role in 2013 is to play backup to David Ash and mentor the younger quarterbacks. [s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)]
He’s appeared in 21 games with six starts in his career. McCoy owns the school record for most consecutive passes to start a career without an interception (124), the third-longest overall streak in school history. He also completed 17 straight passes versus Kansas State in 2012 — a mark that tied him for second place in the record books.
McCoy played as a reserve in eight games and started against Kansas State in 2012. He was named as a first-team Academic All-Big 12 choice. He also shared the team’s D.X. Bible Most Spirited Offensive Player Award for the 2012 season.
This summer, he’s spending 10 weeks in Peru as part of a mission trip but will return as the Longhorns’ No. 2 quarterback. McCoy epitomizes toughness, heart and leadership — characteristics of a reliable quarterback.
