Six UT softball players named NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes

AUSTIN, Texas — The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced Tuesday that six University of Texas softball players earned NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2014-15 academic year.

The UT players who qualified — honorees had to have a GPA of 3.5 or higher over the two previous semesters — included infielder infielder Kelli Hanzel, catcher/outfielder Taylor King, catcher utility player Randel Leahy, outfielder Rachel Scott, outfielder Stephanie Wong and pitcher Erica Wright.

NCAA Division I boasted the most student-athletes with a 3.5 GPA or higher (1,554) out of 5,493 players included from collegiate divisions including NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and junior college as well as high school.
