AUSTIN, Texas — Texas softball head coach Connie Clark bolstered her coaching staff when she announced she had hired current Scrap Yard Sports Director of Player Development and former University of Oklahoma assistant coach Tripp MacKay as an assistant coach.

MacKay replaces Corrie Hill, who was on the UT staff for the past 11 years.

"Tripp is one of the best coaches in the business," Clark said. "His specialty is with the offense, but he studies every aspect of the game and prepares athletes at an exceptionally elite level. His energy, passion and knowledge shine when he is teaching student-athletes. I wanted an immediate impact guy for our open assistant position and with Coach MacKay, we got that. He will be a tremendous complement to our coaching staff.”

Over the last year, MacKay has balanced his role as player development director for Scrap Yard Sports with multiple roles with the National Pro Fastpitch expansion team, the Scrap Yard Dawgs, for whom he oversaw player and coach development as well as development camps and clinics, and served as co-head coach.

For the previous eight seasons, he was an assistant coach at the University of Oklahoma, working largely with the outfielders and the Sooners’ offense.
