SOFTBALL ENDS YEAR WITH NO. 3 RANKING

AUSTIN, Texas – After advancing to the Women’s College World Series semifinals, Texas earned the No. 3 ranking in both the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and ESPN.com/USA Softball final polls, released Tuesday.
The ranking from the NFCA is the highest Texas has ever been in the organization’s final poll, while the mark is tied with the 2006 squad for the highest in the last USA Softball poll.
Texas spent just one week during the year outside the top nine in the NFCA poll. The only time the Longhorns were in the top nine for the entire season was in 2006, when the squad ranked No. 5 or higher each week.
UT ended the campaign with a 51-10 record, good for the second-most wins in a year in program history. The Longhorns’ senior class of Kim Bruins, Taylor Hoagland, Blaire Luna and Torie Schmidt helped the Longhorns to 187 victories in the last four years. The total makes the group the winningest in program history, surpassing the 2006 class’s 177 triumphs
