AUSTIN, Texas — Three junior college players have transferred to the University of Texas for the 2020 season, UT baseball head coach David Pierce announced.
Dawson Merryman is [s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)]a 6-1, 230-pound right-handed pitcher from Midland (Texas) College who was named the Western Junior College Athletic Conference’s Most Valuable Pitcher and first-team all-conference honors as a freshman last season. Merryman went 8-6 in 2019, with an earned run average of 3.02 and six complete games, striking out 97 batters in 80-1/3 innings
Infielder Murphy Stehly (5-10, 180) was Orange Coast (Calif.) College’s leading hitter as a sophomore last season, batting .374, while scoring 34 runs and driving in 41. In addition to his team-leading batting average, he also led his team with 17 doubles and 11 stolen bases while helping to lead the Pirates to the 2019 California Community College Baseball State Championship.
Infielder Camryn Williams (6-2, 190) led San Jacinto (Texas) College in hitting (.341 batting average), runs batted in (37), runs scored (55), hits (62), doubles (13), triples (4) and home runs (8) in 2019; his 39 walks and 12 stolen bases were the second-highest totals on the team in each category. The son of former Major Leaguer Reggie Williams played as a freshman for Dallas Baptist University, and was drafted in the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft by the Seattle Mariners.
