Texas Baseball Tanner Witt out for season

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Baseball sophomore 6’5” right-hander Tanner Witt requires Tommy John reconstruction surgery and will be out the rest of the 2022 season. Witt was initially scheduled to pitch against Texas State in last night’s game. After displaying arm discomfort, the Texas Sports Medicine staff evaluated him and performed additional tests that revealed an injury to his Ulnar Collateral Ligament that requires surgery.

No date has been announced. After surgery Witt, who is from Houston, Texas, will rehab in Austin under the supervision of the Texas Sports Medicine staff.

Witt's last game on the mound was against Alabama on Feb. 27, 2022 where he pitched six innings, struck out nine batters, and got the win.

In 2021 Witt was named Freshman All-American, had 28 relief appearances, 74 strikeouts, and pitched 5.2 shutout innings in the College World Series that allowed Texas to stay in the series.

Witt is a fourth generation Longhorn and comes from a family of athletes. His mom, Lori played softball at Texas and his dad, Kevin Witt was a first-round pick in the 1994 MLB draft.
