Texas Baseball: Three Longhorns named to All-Big 12 Baseball Team

TULSA, Okla. – The Texas baseball team had three players named to the 2015 All-Big 12 Baseball team with junior outfielder Ben Johnson earning first team honors, the league announced Tuesday.

Senior pitcher Parker French and sophomore first baseman Tres Barrera were named to the second team. The Longhorns led all schools with three players named to the All-Freshman team as infielder Bret Boswell, catcher Michael Cantu and pitcher Connor Mayes received recognition for their debut seasons.
Johnson leads the Big 12 in triples (7), ranks second in multi-hit games (25), third in total bases (116), fourth in slugging (.540) and tied for fourth in hits (76). The Westwood High School product is hitting .353 with five homers, 11 doubles and a team-high 36 runs scored, while also stealing 16 bases on 19 tries this year. Johnson received honorable mention in 2014 as a sophomore.

French, the Longhorns' No. 1 starter, ranks eighth in the Big 12 in ERA (2.40) and leads the team in strikeouts (48) and innings pitched (75.0). In 11 of his 13 starts this season the native of Dripping Springs has allowed two earned runs or less, while his 20 career wins rank third among active Big 12 players.
After earning All-Freshman honors a season ago, Barrera earned a second team nod this year while hitting .295 with eight home runs which is tied for third in the conference. He also ranks among league leaders in walks (ninth with 30) and slugging (10th at .489).
Boswell has started 45 games at third base, batting .250 with 23 runs and 20 RBIs, Cantu has split time between first base and behind the plate in his 49 starts, hitting .259 with a team-high 33 walks, and Mayes has a 2.67 ERA in 54 innings pitched.
