Texas Basketball: Holmes, Ridley Named to USBWA All-District VII Team

IRVING, Texas — Junior forward Jonathan Holmes and sophomore center Cameron Ridley were named to the United State Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) All-District VII Team, the organization announced Tuesday. Texas was the only school in the district to have a pair of players named to the 10-person squad.

District VII includes all Division I men’s basketball programs in the states of Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana. There are nine regions from coast to coast. Voting was done by the national membership of the USBWA.

An All-Big 12 Second Team choice, Holmes leads the team in scoring (13.0 ppg) and ranks second on the squad in rebounding (7.3 rpg) and blocked shots (37). He has reached double figures in scoring in 22 of his first 28 games played and has converted 123-of-240 (.513) field goals on the year.

An All-Big 12 Honorable Mention and Big 12 All-Defensive Team selection, Ridley leads the team in rebounding (8.1 rpg) and blocked shots (69) and ranks fourth in scoring (11.5 ppg) while averging 25.4 minutes per contest. He has posted a team-high nine double-doubles this year and has reached double figures in scoring in 19 of his 31 games played.

Texas (22-9, 11-7 Big 12) opens play at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship with a quarterfinal contest against West Virginia on Thursday, March 13. Tip is set for approximately 8:30 p.m.Central at Sprint Center in Kansas City, and the game will be televised regionally by the Big 12 Network.
