Texas beats Texas Tech 57-7 to clinch #1 seed in Big 12 Championship Game

Texas beats Texas Tech 57-7 to finish the 2023 regular season and secures the #1 seed and home team advantage in the Big 12 Championship game against Oklahoma.

Texas’ defense destroyed Texas Tech forcing nine punts, two interceptions, and one turnover on downs and held them to 198 total yards (88 passing, 110 passing).

Texas’ offense put up 528 total yards with an incredible 302 yards rushing and 226 yards passing. Texas scored six touchdowns and five field goals on the night. 

Quinn Ewers played most of the game connecting 17 times on 26 attempts for 196 yards and a touchdown. Arch Manning made his debut late in the fourth quarter.

The fans gave Manning a standing ovation as he entered the game. Manning connected twice on five attempts. Two of those attempts were lasers in the end zone that just missed. Manning also showed off his running ability carrying the ball three times for seven yards. His debut made ESPN highlights;

Jaydon Blue came alive after coming in for an injured CJ Baxter with 10 carries for 121 yards and a touchdown, his longest a 69 yards run for a score.

Savion Red rushed for 72 yards on nine carries, Quintrevion Wisner had 60 yards, a touchdown on seven carries. CJ Baxter took the ball nine times for 45 yards, Keilan Robinson scored a touchdown on a 10 yard carry.

Ewers and Manning targeted nine receivers who pulled down 19 catches for 226 yards. Xavier Worthy tallied 49 yards, a touchdown on four catches, Jordan Wittington caught four also for 41 yards, Ja’Tavion Sanders contributed 45 yards on three receptions, and Adonai Mitchell pulled in two for 35 yards.

Bert Auburn scored 21 points on five field goals and six PAT’s.

During the end of the game Texas played Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark’s video of when he made comments before the season started about Texas Tech handling Texas. The 102,452 fans at DKR made the loudest sound ever recorded. 

Texas now moved on to the Big 12 Championship title game at AT&T Stadium on Dec 2. The home of the Dallas Cowboys. Interestingly Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was in attendance for tonight’s blowout win for Texas.
