Texas does not get Golden Hat after loss to Oklahoma 48-55
DALLAS, Texas — Texas Longhorns lost to Oklahoma 55-48 but were not beaten. Yes, a ‘W’ is a ‘W’, so nothing is taken away from OU, however everyone watching knows what Texas did. This game was the highest scoring game, 103 points, in the history of Texas and Oklahoma rivalry beating out last year’s 98 point game that had a quadruple overtime. There were 92,100 in attendance.
Texas took the lead early in the game and never gave it up until 7:10 on the clock in the fourth quarter when Oklahoma tied the game 41-41. Casey Thompson passed for a total of 388 yards in the game, and it took Oklahoma two quarterbacks to throw for 323 yards. Bijan Robinson had a normal day rushing with 143 yards on 20 carries while Oklahoma’s Kennedy Brooks rushed for 217 yards on 25 carries.
Texas started the game with a touchdown in the first 14 seconds on a 75 yard pass from Casey Thompson to Xavier Worthy. Texas scored 28 points in the first quarter and 10 points in the 2nd, then gave up 10 points to OU in the third and 25 points in the fourth and only put up 10 points in the second-half of play.
Oklahoma field goal kicker Gabe Brkic had four kicks, all good, compared to Texas’ Cameron Dicker with two field goals that were also both good.
The Texas defense had 15 players with a combined 40 solo tackles and 70 total. BJ Foster had an interception with DeMarvion Overshown and Alred Collins getting sacks.
The Longhorns are disappointed at the loss, but know they battled hard and with the exception of a couple plays and missed executions, the game could have easily gone to Texas.
Next up for Texas is another tough opponent in Oklahoma State next Sat. 16 at DKR.
