The “oddsmakers” had Texas losing this game. They had TCU running all over a defense that gave up a ridiculous amount of rushing yards at the start the season. They had a tough TCU defense shutting down a predictable running attack and confusing a back-up quarterback. The oddsmakers must have had their blinders on, because after a complete dismantling of Oklahoma it was clear to most people that this
So much for “oddsmakers”.
I gotta say, when we the weather delay happened, I immediately started thinking of the BYU game and how Texas came out flat in Provo. As it turns out, the worries were unwarranted. In the latest, most convincing example of how far they’ve come since their rain-soaked humiliation at BYU, the Longhorns waited out a three-hour lightning delay Saturday at Amon G. Carter Stadium and then finished off a dominating 30-7 victory over TCU early Sunday morning.
They fed the ball to running backs Johnathan Gray and Malcolm Brown, who churned out another 145 yards on the ground against a tough TCU defense. Quarterback Case McCoy made some big throws downfield to Mike Davis and Marcus Johnson. He also made some mistakes, but overall, McCoy had a decent game. And the defense forced turnovers.
Speaking of defense … WOW! What a difference a few weeks (and new coordinator) makes. Jackson Jeffcoat and Cedric Reed are really chewing up the line of scrimmage on running plays and supplying steady pressure on passing downs. Those two guys look like completely different players and are making a huge impact on the defensive side of the ball.
ESPN’s Max Olson said “This is not the same club that got pummeled by BYU and Ole Miss earlier in the season. The Longhorns are quickly gaining confidence, and for good reason, are beginning to believe they could bring the Big 12 title to Austin.”
We could not agree more.
