Texas men’s basketball blown out at West Virginia, 97-59

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Texas guard Jase Febres scored a game-high 18 points, but it was not enough as the University of Texas men’s basketball team got run over, 97-59, Monday at No. 14/15 West Virginia.

With the loss, the Longhorns [s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)]fell to 12-6 overall, and 2-4 in games against Big 12 opponents, while the Mountaineers improved to 15-3 overall and 4-2 in Big 12 games.

Febres was sharp from the outside, connecting on four of seven shots from three-point range, and from the free throw line, where he drained all six of his attempts.

Junior guard Matt Coleman III 15 points, nine of which came on 3-of-6 shooting from beyond the three-point line. Coleman reached double figures in scoring for the 13th time in 18 games this seasona and the 46th time in the 89 games he has played in his Texas career.

WVU’s 97 points, 36 field goals, 53 rebounds, 16 assists and 12 steals all were season highs for Texas opponents this season.

With the victory Monday, the Mountaineers closed the gap in the all-time series against UT to 11-9. The teams have now split 10 meetings since Shaka Smart took over as the Longhorns’ head coach.

The Longhorns will try to bounce back Saturday when they host LSU at 1 p.m. as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
