Texas’ Papapetrou leads Greece to 77-74 win against Lithuania at U20 European Championships

TALLIN, Estonia — University of Texas sophomore forward Ioannis Papapetrou continued with his solid play. He posted 19 points to help Greece to a 77-74 victory against Lithuania in pool play action on Saturday at the Sportland Under-20 European Championship. Papapetrou converted 6-of-14 field goals (including 3-of-6 threes) and 4-of-5 free throws and added six rebounds, three steals and one assist in 34 minutes of action.

Through the first four games of the tourney, Papapetrou ranks second on the team in scoring (16.0 ppg), rebounding (5.3 rpg) and minutes played (32.5 mpg). He has converted 25-of-53 (.472) field goals, including 7-of-23 (.304) from three-point range, and 7-of-10 (.700) free throws. Greece’s Under-20 team also features swingman Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was recently selected as the No. 15 overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks.

With Saturday’s victory, Greece claimed the top spot in Group A with a perfect 4-0 mark in pool play. Second-round play begins on Monday, July 15, and the tournament runs through Sunday, July 21.
