Texas soccer adds eight standout signees

 

The University of Texas soccer teams bolstered its roster for next year with the addition of eight high school signees, who will join Boston College transfer Amber Stearns as newcomers in Austin next fall (photo courtesy of texassports.com).

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas soccer head coach Angela Kelly announced eight high school seniors had signed national letters-of-intent to play for the Longhorns, joining a class of newcomers that already included Boston College transfer Amber Stearns.

The Longhorns’ incoming freshmen [s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)]are:

  • Midfielder/forward Haley Berg is the No. 2 player in Texas, the nation’s No. 11 midfielder and the nation’s No. 27 player at any position, according to topdrawersoccer.com. A member of the U.S. Under-19 National Team, the Celina, Texas native earned first-team TeamSnap Winter All-America and Texas-North All-Region honors after leading the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex with 64 goals and 13 assists in just 15 games.
  • Goalkeeper Bailey Dobbs, of Seven Lakes High School in Katy, Texas is topdrawersoccer.com’s No. 20 player in Texas. A three-time All-District 19-6A honoree, Dobbs posted 27 shutouts in 42 matches while posting goals-against averages of 0.38 as a sophomore, 0.17 as a junior and 0.73 in her senior season.
  • Madison Dorsett is an outside defender from Prestonwood Christian Academy in Carrollton, Texas, outside of Dallas — the city in which her father, Tony, was a Hall of Fame running back for the Dallas Cowboys. A soccer and track standout, Dorsett twice earned all-conference (soccer) honors.
  • Goalkeeper Savannah Madden will head to Austin from San Diego, Calif., where she played for Scripps Ranch High School. The nation’s No. 2 goalkeeper prospect, the No. 13 player in southern California and the No. 48 player in the country according to topdrawersoccer.com, Madden joined the U.S. Under-17 National Team camp in 2015 and participated in the USA Goalkeeper National Camp in 2014.
  • Peyton McGee, a defender at Legacy High School in Mansfield, is a three-time All-District 14-5A honoree and a three-time Academic All-District selection. McGee tallied 30 goals and six assists in her career at Legacy, with 18 goals coming in her junior season, when she was named her team’s offensive most valuable player.
  • Dallas (Lake Highlands) defender Erin Moudy is a two-time All-District 10-6A honoree and a two-time Academic All-Conference selection. She and Berg were club teammates with Solar Chelsea FC, helping their team finish fifth at the 2016 ECNL National Playoffs in San Diego.
  • Emily Strouphauer is a midfielder/forward from nearby Round Rock, where she played for Cedar Ridge High School and Lonestar FC. According to topdrawersoccer.com, Strouphauer is the No. 7 player in Texas, the nation’s No. 20 midfield prospect and the No. 51 player in the country. In three high school seasons, she piled up 42 goals and 37 assists, twice earning first-team All-District 13-6A honors and a pair of district MVP awards.
  • Outside defender Natalie Weidenbach is a three-time All-KingCo 4A honoree at Mount Si High School in North Bend, Wash. A part of three Washington state champions and the 2014 US Youth Soccer National League, Weidenback is a part of the National Honor Society’s 100-Hour Club for her volunteering efforts and receiver an AP Scholar Award in 2015.
