Texas soccer rolls over Houston Baptist, 4-0

By Steve Lansdale
AUSTIN, Texas — Senior midfielder Amber Sterns scored what proved to be the only goal the Texas soccer team would need to help lead the No. 18 Longhorns to a 4-0 win over Houston Baptist at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Four players scored a goal for Texas, which improved its season record to 6-0-1 with the victory. HBU fell to 2-5-0 while getting outshot, 21-2, by UT.
Sterns gave the Longhorns the lead for good in the 36th minute from outside the back post when she converted assists by Alexa Adams and Chelsea Surpris for her second goal of the season. Less than five minutes later, Katie Glenn doubled the UT lead when she hammered in her third goal of the season off an assist by Tecora Turner.
After halftime, the Longhorns extended their lead. Adams picked up her second assist of the night in the 56th minute when her shot was deflected and Haley Berg buried the rebound for her second goal of the evening. Adams then closed out the scoring in the 69th minute when she volleyed the rebound of a Glenn shot into the goal. Glenn’s assist was her team-leading fifth of the season.
The victory stretched UT’s home winning streak against non-conference opponents to 14 straight games.
The Longhorns will be back in action Friday when they host Texas-Rio Grande Valley at 6 p.m. in a game that can be seen on the Longhorn Network.
