Texas to Sell Beer at Sporting Events Beginning Tonight
Texas fans can purchase their first beer at a Texas sporting event tonight at the women’s basketball contest against TCU.
According to KLBJ, The University of Texas will begin selling beer at men's and women's basketball, softball, and baseball games beginning immediately. (See Update below)
Citing Sports Director Ed Clements, KLBJ broke the news on their twitter account early Tuesday.
The vending of alcohol at college stadiums has become a recent trend among large state schools. Many colleges and universities, including at the University of Hawaii, Ohio State, Cincinnati, Colorado and Michigan have joined this trend and begun the retail of alcohol within their stadiums. And with new athletic director Steve Patterson taking the reins in November of last year, there’s been a strong push to begin the selling of beer at UT sporting events.
It is still unclear whether other sports venues and athletic events, including football, will sell beer as well.
The women’s basketball game begins at 7:30 pm at the Frank Erwin Center.
UPDATE 2/25/2014 6:35 p.m. CT
No beer sales tonight at the Erwin Center for the women's game vs. TCU. "Maybe tomorrow," one arena worker said. Texas silent on issue.
