AUSTIN, Texas — Sam Worley ran away from the pack to win the Jerry Thompson Mile and Teahna Daniels won the 200-meter Invitational Sunday to give the University of Texas a total of nine event championships over the four days of the 92nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Worley established a new personal best when he crossed the line in the mile in 4:04.59.
In the women’s 200 meters, Texas [s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)]took three of the top four places: Daniels won the event in 23.29 seconds. Team Nike’s Jasmin Camacho finished second, in 23.49, followed by UT’s Serenity Douglas and Kennedy Simon, in 23.71 and 23.79, respectively.
Elena Bruckner placed second in the discus, despite breaking her own school record with a heave of 57.40 meters/188 feet, 4 inches on her final attempt. Less than two hours later, she also finished second in the shot put.
Sophomore thrower Tripp Piperi also claimed second place in the shot put, with a throw of 20.49 meters (67 feet, 2¾ inches) that was the fourth-longest in the history of the UT program.
A third second-place finish was turned in by sprinter Kynnedy Flannel, who finished as the runner-up in the 100-meter dash when she crossed the finish line in 11.16 seconds.
Earlier in the week, UT senior Ashtin Zamzow became the first Longhorn to win the heptathlon at the Texas Relays when she set a new school record in the event with 6,148 points.
The Longhorns also swept the 3,000-meter steeplechase titles, with Anna McDonald winning the women’s event and Alex Rogers finishing first among the men.
