Texas Women’s Basketball’s Holmes named Big 12 Freshman of the Week

AUSTIN, Texas – For the second consecutive week and the third time this season, freshman Texas guard/forward Joyner Holmes has been named the Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Week for her impressive performances in a pair of wins against TCU and No. 22 West Virginia this past week, the league office announced Monday.

Holmes, 6-foot-3 and from Cedar Hill, Texas, averaged a double-double for the week with 12.5 points per game and a squad-best 10.5 rebounds per game. She helped the Longhorns cap the first perfect January (9-0) since the 1989 season.

In the road win at TCU on Wednesday night, Holmes scored 15 points and brought down a game-high 14 rebounds. She also blocked two shots in 31 minutes of action and shot 50 percent from the field. It marked her third consecutive double-double.

In Sunday's victory against No. 22 West Virginia, Holmes scored 10 points – eight in the second half – along with seven rebounds in 19 minutes of play.

Holmes ranks first among Big 12 freshmen in scoring (11.8 ppg), rebounding (7.8 rpg) and double-doubles (5).
