Two ‘BIG’ Reasons Sarkisian is staying at Texas

College football and the entire sports world experienced an earthquake today when the Seattle Seahawks announced that Pete Carroll would not longer be the head coach, then an even bigger aftershock occurred when Nick Saban announced he was retiring.

After the shock started to wear off from the news, social media got to work figuring out who would replace Saban at Alabama. We were in line getting pizza when we saw a post from a Alabama Football parody account welcoming Steve Sarkisian as the new head coach. 

Everything started to move in slow motion.

After a quadruple take, and making sure it was an official announcement from Alabama, it was obvious and a relief it was fake.

However, the real question is being pondered, “Who takes over for Saban at Alabama?” Steve Sarkisian is at the top of many high profile analyst and folks in the know – not that they know for sure.

We do not think Sarkisian is going anywhere for many reason, bu there are two big ones that make it obvious why Sarkisian is staying at Texas.

Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning.

For Sarkisian to take the job at Alabama, first he would be stepping into a pair of shoes that are likely the hardest shoes to walk in of anyone in college football. The bar is set so high that it would be impossible, though the fans in Alabama are extremely nice, so they may be forgiving. They seem that way.

Secondly, Sarkisian would be abandoning two quarterbacks that he has been working with and developing into NFL ready QB’s. Ewers is probably a year away and Manning several.

For Sarkisian to walk away from these two just does not seem like something he would do or even think of doing. Sarkisian has reached the mountain top getting to coach at Texas. 

Alabama is another mountain top, but for what we know of Sarkisian and listened to him speak on building a culture at Texas, leaving to take over for Saban does not fit his personality or the words he has shared during press conferences.

Relationships matter to Sarkisian and the relationships he has developed with his players are not something we see him giving up. Ewers and Manning both came to Texas in part, a big part, because of Sarkisian. 

Alabama will find an excellent replacement to take over for Saban. He won’t be Nick Saban, he’ll be his own man and he will do great. Sarkisian is staying at Texas.

Plus, if you remember, Sarkisian told his dad that Texas was his dream job. The best job in college football. He is not walking away from his dream.
