IRVING, Texas — The University of Texas men’s basketball team will face the University of Georgia next season as part of the series between the Big 12 and Southeastern Conference, the leagues announced this week.
As part of the 2017 SEC/Big 12 Challenge presented by Sonic, the Longhorns and Bulldogs will meet Jan. 28, 2017 at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, Ga.
All 10 games between the conferences will be played on the same day, with schools in each league hosting five of the matchups. All of the games will be broadcast on either ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU.
The games will be the fourth Challenge between the two leagues. Through the first three years of the series, the Big 12 has claimed a 20-10 advantage, and has won the series in each year.
Georgia has won six of its 11 meetings with Texas. In their most recent meeting with the Bulldogs, the Longhorns pulled out a 77-71 win at Madison Square Garden Nov. 15, 2002.
UT has won two of its three SEC/Big 12 Challenge games. In 2013, the Longhorns knocked off Vanderbilt, 70-64. They lost to No. 1 Kentucky, 63-51, in 2014 before beating Vanderbilt again, 72-58, last season.
